The Booker T. Washington Center has partnered with the Erie School District in making riding the bus to and from school safe for all students. Bus Monitor plays a vital role in the community because they build a relationship with students and they are the first educational influence every morning to engage and encourage them to have a successful day.

Job Description

The position involves monitoring the students’ behavior, assisting the students with issues traveling to and from school, maintaining order, and enforcing the safety rules and policies.

Bus Monitors  main job duties are to maintain a safe environment for all students on and off the bus, supervise them during transport and report any issues or incidents to the supervisor as well as the Principal. No y Good powers of observation; familiarity with the various bus routes in the district and their stopping places for students; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to get along well with students and command their respect; working knowledge of first aid methods; dependability. Duties also include maintaining order and decorum on the school bus by managing the conduct of the student passengers. Work is performed under general supervision of school administrators.

Requirement

Good powers of observation; familiarity with the various bus routes in the district and their stopping places for students; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to get along well with students and command their respect; working knowledge of first aid methods; dependability. Complete the required clearances and required forms

A bus monitor works a flexible schedule. This career often involves different hours on a weekly basis, with split shifts. Those on a split shift generally work part-time, working a few hours in the morning when the bus picks students up and a few hours in the afternoon when the bus drops students off. Those that work full-time usually perform maintenance or other duties and/or tasks during the middle of the day.

Experience

Applicant must have prior experience in mentoring and preventing the escalation of situations, tempers, and emotions. Must have experience in de-escalation and patroling and controlling an environment.
